Black Gold Cafe and Convenience Store on Botany Road is part espresso bar, part international grocer, and dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables out front. It is a practical stop rather than a brunch destination: grab a coffee, pick up groceries, and keep the dog with you the whole time.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the alfresco seating on the footpath, which runs right onto the street, so keep leads short while the foot traffic passes. Inside is generally a people-only room, though staff have been known to be flexible with small, calm dogs at quiet times. There are no dedicated water bowls guaranteed, so bring your own if your dog will want a drink.

The vibe

The room moves fast. Alongside espresso drinks there is a small kitchen doing grab-and-go meals, including Bangladeshi street snacks like chotpoti and phuchka, and the shelves stock Indian, Pakistani, Nepali and other international groceries. It is the kind of place where you tick off three errands in one visit.

Hours are long, trading from 8am until midnight most days and to 8pm on Sundays, so it covers the gaps most cafes leave open. Mid-morning is the calmest window with a dog.

Getting there and parking

The address is Shop 13, 966 Botany Road, Mascot, with on-site parking plus free street parking around the suburb. The flat, paved footpaths along Botany Road make for easy walking either side of a stop.
