Paper Avenue Cafe

Paper Avenue Cafe is a bright, busy, South African-owned brunch spot on Davidson Terrace in the Joondalup city centre, across from the library. It regularly turns up on Perth dog-friendly cafe lists, and the deal is the usual one done well: dogs are welcome at the street-side and footpath tables out front, not inside, so the useful move is to arrive early and claim a kerb seat before the strip fills.

The dog setup

Dogs sit with you in the kerbside dining area, on lead, and staff are used to them and accommodating. There is no reliable dog water on offer, so bring your own bowl, particularly on warmer mornings. The footpath tables are limited and go quickly at weekends, and the kerb position means keeping your dog tucked in while prams and trolleys pass.

The vibe and the menu

The all-day menu is large and generous: buttermilk pancakes, eggs benedict with smoked brisket, halloumi plates, bagels, banana bread and brownies, plus a wall of specialty drinks including the house Apple Matcha latte and turmeric latte. Hours are 6:30am to 2pm weekdays, from 6:30am Saturday and 7am Sunday, closing early afternoon both weekend days.

Getting there and parking

Davidson Terrace sits on the northern side of the city centre with public bays along the street and more parking through the wider precinct, though central bays turn over slowly at peak times. For off-lead time, the Elcar Park Fenced Dog Park is the CBD option, and the Lake Joondalup Circuit gives you a proper walk to pair with brunch.
