Paper Avenue Cafe is a bright, busy South African-owned brunch spot on Davidson Terrace in the heart of the Joondalup city centre, across from the library. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor kerbside tables, not inside, so the useful move is to grab a footpath seat early before the strip fills up.

The dog setup. Dogs sit with you in the street-side and footpath dining area only; the indoor room is off-limits. Staff are used to dogs and are generally accommodating, but there is no reliable dog water on offer, so bring your own bowl, especially on warmer mornings. Table space along the kerb is limited and goes quickly at weekends.

Good to know. It runs a large all-day breakfast and lunch menu with generous portions, plus a wall of specialty drinks, the turmeric and matcha lattes among them. Coffee and brunch are the draw rather than a big dog offer, so treat this as a solid coffee stop rather than a destination for the dog.

Getting there. Davidson Terrace sits on the northern side of the Joondalup city centre. There are public bays along the street and more parking through the wider commercial precinct, though the central bays turn over slowly at peak times. It is an easy walk from anywhere in inner Joondalup.

Nearby with the dogs. The surrounding city streets are wide and pedestrian-friendly for a leashed stroll. Note that dogs are barred from Central Park and Neil Hawkins Park nearby, so for real off-leash time head to the Elcar Park fenced dog park in the CBD instead.

Best on a weekday morning or straight on opening at the weekend, while the footpath tables are still free. Good for a quick, quality coffee mid-walk rather than a long sit.
