Beaumont Station Cafe

Beaumont Station Cafe is a family-run coffee spot at 1 Beaumont Street, right in the middle of Hamilton's cafe strip, and it opens early for exactly the crowd you would expect: locals on the morning dog walk. Dogs settle at the footpath and alfresco tables out front, and the service has that regulars-know-your-name feel.

Inside is for people, but the outdoor tables are fair game with no pet fee. Tie your dog in close to the table and out of the path of staff and other diners. Water bowls are often set out on the pavement, treat that as a bonus rather than a guarantee and pack your own just in case.

Worth knowing

The menu is straightforward modern cafe fare running breakfast through to lunch, with toasties doing steady business and solid espresso anchoring the counter. Street parking on Beaumont Street and the side streets tightens up over weekend brunch hours, so arriving early pays, though if you are already out walking the dog the strip is an easy stroll from most of Hamilton.

Gregson Park, at the corner of Beaumont and Tudor Streets, is a City of Newcastle leash-free area where dogs can run under effective control between sunrise and sunset, and it is a short walk southwest. Old Shoreline Park Fenced Dog Park and Hamilton Dog Park offer more structured off-lead runs nearby. For another coffee along the strip, Yellowish and Biggs Coffee Hamilton are both dog-friendly local stops.
