Boranup Forest Cafe

Boranup Forest Cafe sits at 7981 Caves Road in Forest Grove, right among the karri trees of the Boranup Forest between Margaret River and Augusta, and dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating. It is the natural coffee stop on the Boranup Forest Drive, with a car park full of tourist traffic on one side and 60-metre karri on the other.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the open-air outdoor seating, including the decking, but not inside the main cafe building. Keep your dog leashed: the cafe sits on the edge of Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park land where baiting can occur, so this is a settle-at-the-table stop, not an off-lead wander. Water bowls are usually put out, but a collapsible bowl is smart backup on busy days.

The vibe and the menu

Expect all-day breakfast and lunch with a forest soundtrack: famous breakfast burgers with gluten-free bun options, oversized homemade scones, banana bread, a pulled pork burger, rotating specials like laksa and smoked brisket, fresh-squeezed juice, milkshakes and proper coffee. Live music often runs from 11am on Sundays. Hours are 9am to 2:30pm Tuesday to Sunday, closed Mondays, and seasonal variation is possible, so check before a long detour.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is on Caves Road, next to the Boranup Gallery, roughly halfway between Margaret River and Augusta. There is an on-site car park, but school holidays and long weekends pack it out as the Caves Road tourist traffic peaks. A weekday morning visit gets you the quietest forest and the easiest park.

While you're out there

The Boranup Forest Drive and its karri-lined gravel loops start just up the road, good for an on-lead leg stretch after coffee. Further afield, Augusta Dog Beach gives your dog a proper swim, and Brookfield Dog Park covers the off-lead itch back in Margaret River. For a second coffee stop, Blue Ginger Fine Foods is a dog-friendly standby in town.
