It Takes A Village

It Takes A Village is a community-minded cafe at 46 Towers Terrace, Edwardstown, run by locals Sam and Louise, and dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables. It pours specialty coffee, bakes its own bread and keeps a rotating cast of South Australian makers on the shelves, which makes it an easy stop for inner-south dog owners who want a proper coffee without doing laps of the block for parking.

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating under the pergola, plus the casual sidewalk spots out front. Keep your dog leashed and settled beside the table. Staff are used to canine regulars, but there is no confirmed water bowl station, so bring your own water on warm days and ask when you arrive. It sits opposite Trott Memorial Reserve, so it slots neatly before or after a neighbourhood walk.

The vibe and the menu

This is a coffee-first cafe with a strong local streak: milk taps, coffee tasting events, handcrafted mugs made by one of the owners and shelves of South Australian produce and art. The food side covers gourmet toasties, sourdough, brownies and cakes, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options flagged on the menu. Hours are 7am to 2pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 1pm Sunday, so it is a breakfast and lunch venue rather than an afternoon one. Cyclists get a 5% discount for showing a helmet or rocking the Lycra.

The cafe sits on a quiet suburban corner near Marion Road in Edwardstown. Street parking is usually available on Towers Terrace and the surrounding residential streets, and there is a small free car park nearby. Weekday mornings are the calmest window; weekend brunch fills up fast.
