Omnivore cafe

Omnivore Cafe sits at 93 Railway Terrace, Ascot Park, a small, colourful brunch spot with a mural on the wall and a train line close enough that passing trains are part of the experience. The outdoor seating out front takes dogs, and the biscuit jar is a fixture.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor tables, on a short lead in the compact footpath and courtyard area; it suits one or two settled dogs rather than a pack. Staff are known for looking after canine guests with free puppacinos and biscuits, though bringing a water bowl backup never hurts.

Worth knowing

The menu is the draw: the signature Omnivore big breakfast, a popular breaky burger, haloumi burgers and focaccia sandwiches, with strong vegan and vegetarian options. Coffee and smoothies hold their own in reviews. Hours are 8am to 2pm Monday, closed Tuesday, 7:30am to 2:30pm Wednesday to Friday and 8am to 2:30pm weekends, so plan around the Tuesday closure.

Getting there and parking

Railway Terrace is an easy walk from Ascot Park train station, which also explains the trains rattling past the window. Street parking is generally available along the suburban strip, tightening at weekend brunch time.

Close by with the dogs

It Takes A Village at Edwardstown, a few minutes north, is famous among local dog owners for its wall of regular canine visitors, and makes an easy second stop. Marion's shopping precinct and its parks are a short drive south.
