Sage & Butler

Sage & Butler is a small neighbourhood cafe on the corner of Mary and Margaret Street in East Toowoomba, and it works as the coffee stop locals build their morning dog walk around. It is a grab-a-table-outside kind of place rather than a long sit-down, and the dog side of the deal is simple: outdoor seating, water, and staff who like dogs.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area with water bowls put out front, and in the crisp Toowoomba mornings the staff keep blankets handy for humans and hounds alike. It suits a quick coffee with your dog parked beside you rather than a leisurely indoor meal.

The vibe

The coffee is well regarded locally and the kitchen leans on brunch staples done properly: bubble and squeak, eggs benedict and a cabinet of home-baked cakes and donuts. It runs 6:30am to 2pm on weekdays and closes at midday on weekends, so it is a breakfast-and-lunch cafe with no evening service.

Pepsi: cold morning, blanket on the outdoor chair, donut on the way. Toowoomba does winter cafe culture properly.

Getting there and parking

It is at 62 Margaret Street with street parking out front and a carpark at the rear, and the side streets pick up the overflow when Grammar sports days fill the area.

While you're out there

The Queens Park Dog Off Leash Area is close by for a proper run after coffee, and the leafy East Toowoomba streets make an easy lead stroll either way. Park House Café over near the park and Urth Cafe & Co are the alternates when the corner tables are full.
