Cafe Valetta

Cafe Valetta sits at 96 Margaret Street in East Toowoomba, in a restored art nouveau heritage cottage directly across the road from Queens Park. The pitch for dog owners is the location: eat brunch, then cross the road and let the dog stretch out in the park. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the outdoor garden and front patio seating.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor garden seating and the front patio, both with shaded tables spaced a little apart. Inside the main cafe is assistance dogs only. Water bowls are often put out, but bring your own as a fallback. On busy weekends it is worth booking and mentioning you are bringing a dog so you are placed at an outdoor table.

The vibe and the menu

The kitchen is known for its high tea, cakes and scones, and the brunch menu covers eggs benedict, gourmet omelettes and corn fritters, with solid coffee to match. It opens 7:30am to 2pm every day. Weekdays are noticeably quieter; weekends get very busy, and the Carnival of Flowers period is busier again, so plan accordingly if your dog dislikes crowds.

Getting there and parking

It sits on Margaret Street near the Hume Street intersection. Free street parking is available but competitive at peak times, so look along Margaret Street or the side streets bordering Queens Park.

Close by with the dogs

The Queens Park Dog Off Leash Area is right across the road, accessed near the Godsall Street entry by the botanic gardens. It is leafy and shaded but not fully fenced, and Toowoomba Regional Council requires your dog to wear a current ID tag and stay under effective voice or visual control, with leads back on outside the signed zone. The formal botanic gardens are a pretty on-leash stroll if you keep to the paths. For a fenced option, the Wilsonson Heights Dog Park is a short drive west.
