Humble Espresso

Humble Espresso works out of a revamped cottage at 73 Upper Street in East Tamworth, and it has quickly built a name for some of the best coffee in town. It is a casual breakfast and brunch spot where dogs are a normal part of the morning: on a busy day the sidewalk forecourt can hold several at once, each with an owner working through a flat white.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area on the cottage's forecourt. Keep yours leashed and settled close to the table, because Upper Street is a real road with real traffic and the seating sits right on the footpath, so a short lead beats a long line. Water bowls are usually on offer and staff are welcoming, but a portable bowl is a smart backup on a warm morning.

The vibe

The coffee is the headline: smooth, strong and consistent, which is why the place rates so well locally. Food covers sourdough toast with spreads, bacon and egg rolls, a solid big breakfast and smashed avo, with house-baked treats and rotating weekend specials announced on the cafe's socials. It is popular with locals and busy on weekends.

Getting there and parking

Hours are 7am to 2pm Tuesday to Friday and 7am to midday Saturday and Sunday, closed Mondays, so the weekend kitchen finishes early. Free street parking runs along Upper Street, and the cafe sits directly across from Tamworth Public School, which matters for parking at drop-off and pick-up times.

Close by with the dogs

For an off-leash run before or after coffee, the George Street Dog Park in West Tamworth is the closest dedicated facility, fully fenced with two separate exercise areas, water stations and shade shelters. If you want a dog-friendly dinner option later in the day, The Pig & Tinder Box also welcomes dogs.

Max: three dogs on the forecourt and the bacon and egg rolls still come out fast. Worth the road-crossing.
