Peel River Levee Bank Walk

Raised above the Peel River and shaded by big riverside trees, the Peel River Levee Bank Walk is Tamworth's easy town-centre river walk. Most people join it from Bicentennial Park and the regional playground beside the CBD.

Lead rules

Tamworth Regional Council requires dogs on a lead in public spaces, and that covers the levee path. Dogs are also banned within 10 metres of children's playground equipment, which matters here because the path starts right beside the regional playground.

The walk

It is a mostly flat concrete shared path with stairs and ramps linking it to the parkland below. From the top you get long views over the river and the open parks.

Bubblers and toilets sit near the playground precinct, and there is plenty of free parking off Kable Avenue.

Pepsi: Near the bridge there is a gravel beach and a shallow swimming hole. Perfect for a paddle on a hot afternoon.

Make a day of it

The CBD is a short walk away. Grab a coffee at Oliver Brown or a meal at The Tamworth Hotel.

The shade and even surface make it a good summer walk and kind to older dogs. Steer well clear of the playground end when children are about.
