NOS. Bakehouse & Cafe on Annerley Road is a small, endlessly popular bakehouse where the pastries and Japanese-style sandos pull a queue and the outdoor garden seats the dogs. It is a cosier, more personal room than the average Brisbane brunch cafe, and the team is openly fond of four-legged visitors.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome outdoors only: the back garden, the laneway seating and the street-side tables. Inside stays people-only. Keep your dog leashed and settled around other diners, and note the garden tables are close quarters, so it suits a calm dog rather than an energetic greeter. Water bowls go out for canine guests, there is no pet fee, and puppyccinos are on the cards. The garden tables go early on weekends, so arrive before the coffee crowd.

Worth knowing

The bakehouse is known for house-made shokupan milk bread, creative sandos including the egg katsu, ube cheesecake and a matcha line-up that runs to lavender lattes. Hours run 7am to 2:30pm Tuesday through Sunday and the shop closes Mondays, so plan the dog-and-pastry run accordingly. Weekday mornings are the relaxed window; weekends get busy fast and outdoor seats are limited.

Max: go Tuesday or Wednesday mid-morning for the quietest garden, and split a sando while the dog works through the smell of fresh shokupan.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits on Annerley Road in Dutton Park, near the PA Hospital end of the suburb. Street parking nearby is free but limited and fills quickly, so budget extra time on weekends or walk in if you are close. Buses along Annerley Road stop within a short walk.
