The Navy Bear

The Navy Bear is a casual waterfront cafe inside the Royal Australian Navy Sailing Association (RANSA) grounds on Rushcutters Bay, and dogs are welcome both in the tin-shed dining area and out on the deck.

The dog setup. Dogs are allowed indoors in the casual shed seating and outside on the waterfront deck. Water bowls are put out for dogs and staff are used to well-behaved dogs settling in beside the tables. Keep dogs close given the boat traffic and other patrons at what is a working sailing club, not just a cafe.

Known for. Harbourside views over the marina and Rushcutters Bay, a relaxed brunch menu (smashed avo, steak sandwich, pumpkin bread) and friendly staff who don't mind a dog underfoot.

Getting there. It's at 1C New Beach Road, Darling Point, right on the RANSA marina. Street parking along New Beach Road covers it but fills up on weekends, so arrive early. Edgecliff Station is about a 10-15 minute walk.

Nearby with the dogs. Rushcutters Bay Park is right next door and has a large off-leash area, so it's an easy stop before or after a run. The harbourside path also continues on toward Double Bay.

When to go. Morning is best, both for the marina light and to beat the weekend parking crunch. Confirm current opening hours before you go as cafe hours can shift with the weather.
