Lyra Cafe

Lyra Cafe is a small, local-focused cafe at Shop 1/40 Griffith Street, Coolangatta, run by hospitality veterans Anna and Chey. It opens at 6am on weekdays, sits a short walk from Coolangatta Beach, and the footpath tables along Griffith Street are where dogs are welcome.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor footpath tables fronting Griffith Street, on lead beside you. The setup suits a mid-walk coffee stop more than a long brunch, and water for dogs is sometimes offered rather than guaranteed, so carry your own bowl, especially on hot days.

The vibe

The coffee is the draw: consistently smooth espresso plus a line-up of specialty cold foam brews and fresh smoothies. The food side leans on gourmet toasties built on locally baked Bread Social sourdough, with fillings like turkey, cranberry and brie, ham and cheese with pickles, and truffle mushroom, alongside bacon and egg rolls, granola and a cabinet of pastries and sweet treats.

Max: 6am open, footpath table, toastie on sourdough. That is the whole morning sorted.

Getting there and parking

Griffith Street is the main Coolangatta strip, with a mix of free and paid street parking that tightens up on weekends. Public parking off Dutton Street and behind the Marine Parade centres is the fallback, and the beach is an easy walk from the door. Note the hours: 6am to 2pm Monday to Friday and closed on weekends, though hours occasionally flex for local events, so check ahead before planning a weekend visit.

Close by with the dogs

The Coolangatta beachfront path is minutes away, and the route from Point Danger Lookout to Currumbin Alley makes a proper on-lead leg stretch with ocean views. For another coffee stop nearby, Espresso Cooly and MADE Kirra are both in walking range.
