X74 Cafe

X74 Cafe is a casual neighbourhood cafe at 10 Bream Street in Coogee, one street back from the beach, serving modern Australian brunch and lunch from an exposed-brick dining room with sidewalk seats and a leafy back garden. Its own social feed makes a running feature of the dogs that come through, which tells you the welcome is genuine rather than grudging.

The dog setup

Dogs take the outdoor footpath tables and the garden space out the back, and staff are known to let well-behaved dogs inside as well. Water bowls come out regularly. Weekends are busy and social, so it suits a dog comfortable around other dogs and people rather than one after a quiet corner; weekday mornings are the calmer window.

Worth knowing

All-day breakfast runs from the 6.30am opening through to 2pm, built around the bacon and egg roll, the big brekky, French toast, eggs benedict and florentine, truffle eggs and acai bowls, with lunch from 11am. Portions run generous, the banana bread gets regular mentions, and the coffee pours alongside the occasional mimosa for the weekend set. Hours are 6.30am to 2pm Monday to Saturday and 7.30am to 2pm Sunday, with public holidays starting at 7am.

Getting there and parking

Street parking is available on Bream Street and the surrounding streets, though it tightens up on weekends when the beach crowd lands. If you are already on the coastal path after a beach walk, it is an easy couple of minutes in from the sand.

Make a morning of it

The Coogee Dog Park covers the off-lead play, and the Grant Reserve Walk puts ocean cliffs under your feet before breakfast. For another local table, Bohaus Cafe is nearby in the same stretch of Coogee.
