Bohäus Cafe(Coogee)

Bohäus is a Scandinavian-leaning coffee spot at 226 Coogee Bay Road, set partway up the hill from the beach and welcoming dogs at its front tables. It opens from 6am daily (7am Sundays) and trades to 4pm. Coffee is the headline and consistently well rated, backed by croissants, bagels, avo toast and acai bowls for breakfast and lunch.

The dog setup

Dogs go at the outdoor tables at the front, on the footpath and entryway, while indoors is people-only. Staff are dog-friendly and often put out a water bowl. The front seating is compact with small tables, so it reads as a quick coffee stop rather than a place to spread out with a large dog, and well behaved dogs that sit tight are the easiest fit.

The vibe

The Scandinavian lean shows in the pastry case and the pared-back room, and being above the beachfront strip means it sidesteps the heaviest crush around the sand. Weekday mornings are the calmest window for an unhurried footpath table with your dog; weekend brunch brings queues and tighter quarters.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits on Coogee Bay Road among the residential blocks above the beach. Street parking is on Coogee Bay Road and the surrounding residential streets, and it tightens on weekends. Buses run along Coogee Bay Road, and the beach is a short walk downhill.

Make a morning of it
