The Yarra Valley Pie Stop

The Yarra Valley Pie Stop is a roadside pie shop on the Maroondah Highway at Coldstream, open seven days from 10:30am. It is takeaway-first with outdoor seating, which is exactly the format that works when you are touring the valley with a dog in the car.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor tables out front, not inside. Service is counter and takeaway, so you order, then sit out with your dog rather than juggling a lead at an indoor counter. Bring your own water bowl: a refill bowl is not something to count on here. The highway verge means the lead stays on.

Worth knowing

The draw is fresh pies, with the lamb pie and the spinach and ricotta roll the standing orders, plus barista coffee and sweet baked treats. Weekday trade runs from 10:30am to 3:30pm and weekends stretch to 5pm. Plan it as a fuel-up between Lilydale and Healesville rather than a destination meal.

Getting there and parking

It sits at 692 Maroondah Highway, Coldstream, with on-site parking directly in front and access straight off the highway. That makes it one of the easiest dog-friendly stops in the valley to slip into an itinerary: no detour, no circling for a spot.

Make a day of it

Several Coldstream cellar doors keep dogs welcome in outdoor areas, and Tokar Estate is one of the closest. Back towards town, the Lilydale General is a good coffee stop with the dog, and the Warburton Rail Trail: Lilydale to Seville gives you an on-lead stretch to walk off the pastry.
