O’Hey Cafe

O'Hey Cafe is Coburg's go-to brunch spot at 44 O'Hea Street, a light-filled neighbourhood cafe with a serious local following built on generous plates and specialty coffee. It is openly dog-friendly with two seating options for owners: a rear courtyard and footpath tables out the front, so you have a plan whatever the weather.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the rear courtyard and at the front footpath tables. The courtyard is the pick for a longer sit, with outdoor heaters for cooler mornings, and dog bowls are kept on hand; carry your own as backup on busy weekends. Staff are accommodating with dogs, and weekday mornings are the calmest window if your dog prefers a quieter room.

The menu

The brunch list is the drawcard: French toast, hotcakes, chilli scramble and a signature taco, plus falafel and halloumi bowls for the non-breakfast crowd. Portions run large, the taro latte has its own fan club, and the coffee is a genuine specialty-grade pour. Hours are 6:30am to 2:30pm weekdays and 7am to 3pm weekends. Weekend brunch queues are real, so book around them or come early.

Getting there and parking

O'Hea Street runs through central Coburg, a short walk from the 19 tram up Sydney Road and about 20 minutes north of the CBD. On-site parking is limited, but free street parking along O'Hea Street and the surrounding residential streets is generally easy outside weekend brunch peak.

Close by with the dogs

The Egan Reserve off-leash area is a quick walk for a pre-brunch run, the Coburg Bush Reserve sits along the Merri Creek corridor for something longer, and the Richards Reserve fenced dog park is just north in Coburg North. El Parche Coffee Roasters is another dog-friendly coffee stop in Coburg.
