The Kitchen Container is a casual, budget-friendly takeaway and cafe on Old Post Office Lane in Carrum, right by the beach. It is a favourite quick stop for locals walking dogs along the foreshore, with mostly outdoor seating.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor courtyard and footpath seating. As a compact food-service container, the service area itself is not for dogs, so plan to sit outside. Keep your dog on-lead and clear of other diners. Bring your own water bowl.

Good to know. The draw here is affordability and speed: cheap bacon and egg sandwiches, toasties, coffee, juices and ice cream. It is a grab-and-go spot rather than a sit-down destination, which suits a beach day with the dog.

Getting there. Find it on Old Post Office Lane, just off the Nepean Highway. Street parking on the highway and side streets is limited and fills fast on sunny days, so walk or cycle if you are local. It is a very short walk from Carrum Station.

Nearby with the dogs. Carrum Dog Beach is essentially across the road, with seasonal off-leash rules worth checking. Roy Dore Reserve fenced dog park is a short walk for a run.

When to go. Early or late in the day dodges both the queue and the summer beach ban. Good for a fast, cheap feed between walks.
