BLVD Specialty Coffee

BLVD Specialty Coffee is at 6/96 Waratah Boulevard in Canning Vale, in a quiet residential pocket of Perth's south-eastern suburbs rather than a shopping centre. It is a specialty coffee kitchen with a shaded alfresco area, and dogs are warmly welcome out there, which makes the walk-then-coffee circuit an easy habit.

The dog setup

The outdoor alfresco seating is where dogs go, and this kitchen is unusually geared up for them: staff put out fresh water bowls, tables have leash-holding spots, and regulars report plenty of pats and the occasional pup cup. The indoor room is people-only, so plan on alfresco. The leafy residential streets around the cafe suit a calm settle-in.

The coffee and the kitchen

Coffee runs to international specialty roasts, with a long black served with a small glass of sparkling water, plus freshly baked goods. The brunch menu carries chilli scrambled eggs on toasted ciabatta, eggs benedict with a choice of bacon, pulled beef or salmon, smashed avo, a chorizo stack, gluten-free pancakes, and a pesto mushroom gnocchi topped with a poached egg, with vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options across the board. Hours are 7am to 1:30pm weekdays and 8am to 1:30pm weekends, so it is a morning venue.

Getting there and parking

Street parking is available around the commercial block on Waratah Boulevard, and the surrounding area is walkable and residential, which keeps footpath traffic light for a dog on a lead.

Close by with the dogs

Bracadale Park's fenced dog park is the standout nearby run, split into separate zones for timid and boisterous dogs with agility equipment and a sandpit, and Ranford's fenced dog park is the other dedicated option. Shahla Cafe and Dome Cafe are the other Canning Vale sit-down stops.
