Odett's Cafe Cairns

Odett's Cafe is a casual breakfast-and-lunch spot on Lake Street in Cairns North, a short walk from the Esplanade and handy if you want a relaxed feed after a morning stroll with the dog. It comes up as dog friendly at the outdoor tables, which is where you and the dog should plan to be.

The dog setup

Dogs sit at the outdoor tables rather than inside, and the atmosphere is quiet and unhurried, which suits a dog that settles under the table. Bring a portable water bowl rather than assuming one is provided, and given the cafe does not publish a pet policy, a quick confirmation when you arrive keeps things simple.

The vibe

The kitchen runs classic cooked breakfasts, eggs benedict, buttermilk pancakes and Belgian waffles with fresh fruit, plus burgers and salads at lunch, all backed by Italian Illy coffee, fresh juices and milkshakes. Homemade cakes and French pastries cover the sweet end. It opens early, 6.30am on weekdays and 7am weekends, and winds down by early afternoon, so it is a morning-to-lunch call rather than an evening one.

Getting there and parking

Free street parking runs along Lake Street, plus an on-site lot, and the position makes it easy to combine with a walk along the Cairns North end of the Esplanade.

Close by with the dogs

The Esplanade walkways are close by for a paved on-lead walk, and the council's designated off-leash parkland between Smith and Lily Streets is nearby for a proper run, with dogs otherwise on-lead along the water and banned from the Lagoon precinct. For other stops, Guyala Cafe is the waterfront brunch option and Espresso Italiano is further up Lake Street.
