Gelocchio(Cairns North)

Gelocchio is an artisanal gelato shop on the Cairns Esplanade, making Italian-style gelato and sorbet fresh in-house. It is an easy stop on a waterfront walk, with footpath tables where a dog can wait while you queue.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables on the pedestrian Esplanade footpath. As a food premises, only assistance dogs come inside, so plan to order and sit out front. The footpath is paved and busy, so bring your own water bowl and keep your dog tucked in close on a short lead.

Good to know. It is known for a wide range of gelato and sorbet with a solid line-up of dairy-free and vegan options, plus gelato on a stick and ice-cream cakes. It runs later than most cafes, open daily into the evening, which makes it a good after-dinner walk stop.

Getting there. On The Esplanade near the northern end of the strip. Street parking runs along the Esplanade but gets tight in the evenings - walking in along the path is often easier.

Nearby. The Esplanade walking path is right outside for a scenic on-leash stroll, and the Lagoon parklands are a few minutes south (dogs on-lead).

Evenings are cooler for a dog on hot pavement but also busier, so a shoulder time around dusk is the sweet spot.
