Arte. by Crystalbrook is the ground-floor cafe, wine bar and small-plates spot at the Crystalbrook Bailey hotel in central Cairns, with an art-led, relaxed feel. It welcomes dogs in its alfresco seating, which fits naturally with Bailey being the city's dog-friendly hotel.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor alfresco dining area, on lead, not inside. Crystalbrook lists it as pet-friendly on an enquire basis, so it is worth a quick check on arrival, especially at busy service times. Bring a water bowl, though staff at the dog-friendly hotel are used to looking after pups.

Good to know. The draw is the wine list and sommelier-led pours, cheese and charcuterie boards and a tapas-style menu, in a contemporary, art-filled setting. It works for a coffee and breakfast through to evening wine and small plates.

Getting there and parking. The address is 163 Abbott St, at Crystalbrook Bailey. There is limited street parking on Abbott St plus paid valet parking at the hotel.

Nearby with the dogs. The Cairns Esplanade boardwalk is a short on-lead walk away. Plenty of CBD cafes nearby also have dog-friendly outdoor seating if you are making an afternoon of it.

When to go. Late afternoon for the wine-bar end of the day, or mid-morning for a quieter coffee with the dog. Good for a calm dog that settles at an alfresco table in a polished setting.
