Blackbird Warehouse

Blackbird Warehouse is a spacious industrial-style coffee roaster and cafe at 1/205 Newell Street in Bungalow, the roasting home of Cairns brand Coffee NQ, and it is openly pet-friendly: the team invites dogs along for the morning brew. For anyone crossing Cairns with a dog early, this is the stop before the day starts.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the open warehouse setting, where the outdoor and open-air areas give a dog room to settle quietly beside your table. The counter gets busy at commuter hour, so keep your dog leashed and out of the queue line. A water bowl isn't guaranteed, so bring your own, particularly in the tropics where shade is worth thinking about too.

The vibe and the menu

This is a coffee destination first: specialty espresso and a signature cold brew, roasted on site, with retail bags of blends such as Garana, Classic and Supreme to take home. Light snacks and treats cover the food side rather than a full kitchen, and the space has hosted coffee-culture events including latte art competitions. Hours are 6:30am to 1pm Monday to Friday, 7am to noon Saturday, closed Sundays, so plan around the morning trade.

Getting there and parking

Newell Street runs through Bungalow's light-industrial pocket south of the Cairns CBD, with free street parking usually available right out front, which makes the grab-and-go stop genuinely quick.

A run before or after coffee works at Little Barlow Park, the suburb's fenced dog park, and the nearby Newell Street Cafe and COFFii Espresso are alternate dog-friendly coffee stops in the same stretch.
