these three things is a cafe at 25 Lytton Road in Bulimba, a short walk back from the Oxford Street strip, with a shaded deck that looks out over the trees towards the Brisbane city skyline. Dogs are welcome on the deck, and the morning-only hours make it a first-stop rather than a lunch destination.

The dog setup

The outdoor deck is the dog-friendly zone, and staff are used to dogs settling beside the tables. There is an indoor play area for kids, but that space is inside and separate from where dogs sit, so the deck does the double duty of families and dogs without anyone underfoot. Bring your own water bowl just in case, and keep leads short because the deck gets busy on weekend mornings once the sun is out.

On the counter

The kitchen runs a toastie-heavy breakfast and brunch menu: the Portuguese chicken toastie, a deluxe toastie, and chicken and avocado versions are the regulars' orders, with banana bread and chocolate banana smoothies alongside. Coffee is solid, and the deck with a city view is unusual for a suburban cafe. Hours are 7am to 12:30pm Tuesday to Sunday, closed Mondays.

Getting there and parking

Unlike most of the Oxford Street precinct, the cafe has its own onsite parking, which makes it an easy drive-in stop. It is also walkable from Bulimba's ferry side if you are coming up the river path with the dog.

Close by with the dogs

Bulimba Riverside Park's fenced dog park sits by the river at the end of Addison Avenue, and Bulimba Memorial Park's dog park is the on-leash-and-off option near Oxford Street. Linda's Cafe is the other Bulimba cafe worth pairing, and Willow Cafe is close over in Balmoral.
