De La Plage

De La Plage occupies the Casuarina Surf Life Saving Club building at the end of Darribah Road, which puts it directly on Casuarina Beach with the coastal reserve behind it. It is the rare Top End cafe where the beach is literally your front yard, and the cafe is generous about it: dogs are welcome on the lawns and at the outdoor tables under the umbrellas, with water bowls on offer. Hours run 7am to 2pm most days, with later dinners on Thursday through Sunday.

Dogs on the lawns

The dog policy comes from the venue itself rather than directory listings: dogs on the lawn and outdoor table areas, leashed, with shade and water provided, and the indoor space kept for humans as is standard. The trade is heat management. Darwin mornings are the comfortable window, and the umbrellas matter less at midday when the wet season builds. Given how many dogs pass through on the sand path, the staff are well practised at four legged customers.

The menu covers burgers, reuben sandwiches and bigger plates, and live music turns up on the evening sessions. Parking is at the surf club end of Darribah Road, and it fills early on weekend mornings when swimmers and dog walkers arrive together. The coastal reserve trails start almost at the door if you want a longer walk before eating, and the beach itself is on leash rules that vary by zone, so check the signage as you cross the dune line.
