The setup. Bilby sits at 48 Kidman Avenue, off the main strip on a quiet Belmont street, and dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating. The quieter street is the appeal here: it is a calmer stop than the High Street cafes, which suits a dog that would rather not sit beside constant foot traffic. Indoors is off-limits under the standard Victorian food rules.

Water and treats. Handy detail for this one, dog treats are sold on the retail shelf inside, so you can pick something up for the dog while you order. The outdoor area is small, so it is best in fair weather with a settled dog.

Known for. Cakes are the signature (the carrot cake gets named repeatedly), backed by Campos coffee including the house Bilby Blend. It was formerly Colour Me Cake and is run by the Sullies Kiosk team.

Getting there. On-street parking on Kidman Avenue and the neighbouring streets is usually easy. Walkable from the Barwon River trails.

Worth knowing. Open Monday to Saturday and closed Sundays, so plan around that. A good low-key coffee-and-cake stop to reward a river walk.
