Gunthers Lane Cafe

Gunthers Lane Cafe occupies the old Reliance Bank Counting House at 203/209 Russell Street in central Bathurst, and it is as much a community technology hub as a cafe, with free wifi and a gadget corner inside. For dog owners the relevant part is out the back: a covered laneway courtyard where dogs on lead are welcome, open from 5am on weekdays and 7am on weekends until around midday or early afternoon.

The dog setup

Dogs sit with you in the undercover courtyard behind the building, a quiet, shaded spot that stays out of the sun and rain. Indoor access is reserved for assistance animals, so plan on the laneway. Bring your own water bowl, as this is a bring-the-basics kind of place. The courtyard entrance makes arrivals simple, and the setting is calm enough for dogs that find main-street footpaths busy.

The vibe

Merlo coffee pulled into lattes, flat whites and iced lattes, plus a short, fuss-free food list. The bacon and egg muffin is the repeat order, praised for its crispy edges, and the doughnuts have their own following. Service is quick and genuinely friendly, which matters when you are juggling a lead and a coffee at 6am.

Getting there and parking

On-street parking runs along Russell Street, and the cafe is walkable from most of the CBD and its accommodation, sitting behind the old Westpac building. Bathurst's flat grid makes the last leg easy on the leash.

Close by with the dogs

The Kefford St Off-Leash Dog Park is a short drive away, fully fenced with separate large and small dog sections and solar lighting for early or late visits.
