Macondo Cafe

Macondo is a small specialty coffee shop at Shop 3, 624 Botany Road in Alexandria, set inside the Casa Blanca grooming lounge. The grooming connection makes it one of the more genuinely dog-friendly rooms in the inner south: dogs are welcome inside and out, and staff are used to having them around.

The dog setup

Dogs can come right in with you, which is rare for a cafe this compact, though the space is small so a settled dog on a short lead works best. Bring your own water bowl if you want to be certain, and time your visit with a grooming appointment next door if that is the plan.

Pepsi: treat this as a tidy-up-and-coffee stop rather than a long sit. The room is tight, and a dog that parks itself under the counter is fine for twenty minutes but not for a Sunday sprawl.

The vibe

The coffee is the focus, brewed with Ona beans, alongside a short list of toasties, Latin pastries and empanadas and a matcha range that gets most of the attention. It is a quick, well-executed menu rather than a big brunch operation.

Getting there and parking

Opening hours run 7am to 3:30pm on weekdays and 8am to 3:30pm on weekends. Free street parking sits along Botany Road and the side streets, though it tightens on weekend mornings, and buses run straight down Botany Road.

Pair it with

Joynton Park in Zetland is the closest green space for a post-coffee stroll, and Naxeion Cafe is the fallback if Macondo's small room is full. For an overnight stay in the same pocket, Veriu Green Square is the apartment-style option.
