Cofield Wines

Cofield Wines is a family-owned winery at 341 Distillery Road in Wahgunyah, on the edge of the Rutherglen wine region, with its own restaurant, Quartz Cuisine, and roomy lawns out front. Dogs on leads are welcome in the outdoor areas, water bowls supplied, and the cellar door pours free tastings seven days a week, 9am to 5pm on weekdays and Saturdays, 11am to 4pm Sundays.

The dog setup

Well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome across the lawn, courtyard and outdoor seating, which is where most of the action happens on a warm Rutherglen day anyway. Water bowls are provided. For the indoor tasting spaces and the restaurant, ask at the cellar door before you settle in, as access varies with the day and the crowd; the reliable plan is a table on the grass with a tasting before lunch. Book ahead if you want a guaranteed outdoor spot at Quartz Cuisine on a weekend.

The vibe

Cofield's house specialty is sparkling, made by the traditional method, with the Sparkling Shiraz the standout and Durif anchoring the still reds, alongside sweet and fortified styles Rutherglen is known for. The lawn games and occasional picnic pop-ups keep things family-casual, and the midweek specials make a weekday visit easy on the wallet. With the jumping-castle days and weekend traffic, dogs that prefer calm do better midweek.

Max: Do not assume the indoor tasting room is fair game just because the outdoor areas are dog-friendly. Ask at the cellar door first and have a backup plan for sitting outside if the answer is no.

Getting there and parking

Set the maps for 341 Distillery Road, Wahgunyah. It is about five minutes from both Rutherglen and Corowa, and roughly 45 minutes from Albury-Wodonga. Ample on-site parking sits right by the cellar door, with flat ground from car to lawn.

Close by with the dogs

The Rutherglen district stacks up well for a dog-inclusive day. Campbells Wines is famously welcoming and lets dogs inside the tasting room, while Lake Moodemere Estate pairs tastings with lakeside bush walks. Put the three together and you have a full dog-friendly loop without repeating a view.
