Wahgunyah River Track

The Wahgunyah River Track follows the Murray under huge old river red gums on the edge of town. Dogs are welcome, on lead along the track, with a council off-leash area at The Willows.

Leads and the off-lead area

Indigo Shire Council expects dogs on lead along the public tracks and river foreshore. The Willows in Wahgunyah is a designated off-leash area, where dogs can run under effective voice control.

The walk

The surface mixes well-graded, all-weather shared trail with compacted earth and gravel bush track. Along the way you get the river, vine-covered floodplain and plenty of birdlife.

The red gums give strong shade in the warmer months. Park at the Mass Tree car park at the bottom of Short Street for The Willows end, or at the Wahgunyah Recreation Reserve football oval.

Max: The river is right there, but check for blue-green algae warnings and strong current before anyone swims.

There are no taps on the bush sections and bins sit near the car parks, so carry water and bags.

The Wahgunyah Recreation Reserve Loop is close by for a second walk the same day.

Flat and shaded, this is a good summer walk for most dogs. Go early on hot days and keep the swim for when the water looks clean.
