Kilikanoon Wines Cellar Door sits in a rustic 1860s farmhouse on Penna Lane at Penwortham, and it is one of the more relaxed Clare Valley stops for dog owners, with pets welcomed both inside the tasting room and out.

Dog access and setup. Well-behaved dogs are allowed inside the tasting room as well as in the outdoor courtyard area, which is unusual for a cellar door. Water bowls and shaded spots are provided outside. This is a cellar door only, not accommodation, so there are no room rules to navigate, just keep dogs settled and under control around other tasters.

Known for. Kilikanoon has a strong reputation for Shiraz, Cabernet and Riesling, poured in a historic 1860s cottage with personable, knowledgeable staff running the tastings.

Getting there and parking. The cellar door is at 30 Penna Lane, Penwortham, about ten minutes south of Clare, with on-site parking.

Nearby with the dogs. The Riesling Trail, a 35km shared path running from Auburn to Barinia, passes close by and is an easy add-on walk. Sevenhill Cellars is a short drive away and also has outdoor walking paths, and the quiet vineyard-lined roads around Penwortham itself are pleasant for a stroll.

Indoor access is a real perk here, but it is still someone else's tasting room, so keep your dog close and settled rather than wandering between tables.
