Tatler Wines

Tatler Wines is a family-owned boutique winery at 477 Lovedale Road, with a big front lawn, Brokenback Range views and one of the more flexible dog policies in the Hunter: dogs are allowed inside the cellar door itself, not just the grounds.

The dog setup

Leashed dogs are welcome inside the cellar door during tastings, across the lawn and outdoor areas, and at the on-site dining, and they can join the Bohemian picnic experience too. Staff provide water bowls, and the lead stays on within the vineyard grounds, which keeps things easy around the vines and other visitors.

Pepsi: the big lawn is the whole point. Pick a dry, mild day, claim a patch of grass, and turn a tasting into an afternoon.

The vibe

Wines span Semillon, Chardonnay, Verdelho, Shiraz, Sangiovese, Cabernet and Merlot, with winemaking led by respected Hunter identity Andrew Thomas. The lawn and picnic setup suit settling in rather than taste-and-move-on, and weekday visits are calmer for dogs than the weekend picnic and dining crowd. Doors open 10am to 4pm Thursday, to 5pm Friday and Saturday, and to 3pm Sunday; closed Monday to Wednesday.

Getting there and parking

The winery sits centrally on the Lovedale strip, easy off the Hunter Expressway, with on-site parking directly in front of the grounds. Driving is the practical way in, so organise a designated driver for the loop.
