Glenarty Road

Glenarty Road is a fifth-generation family winery, farm and restaurant at 70 Glenarty Road, Karridale, about 25 minutes south of Margaret River township. It runs a proper paddock-to-plate operation with sheep on the property, woodfired lamb on the menu and estate wines at the bar. If you are touring the southern Margaret River region with a dog, here is how it works.

The dog setup

Be aware before you set out: because this is a working livestock farm, the venue asks visitors to come without dogs where possible, for farm biosecurity reasons. If you do bring your dog, the rules are strict. Dogs stay on a lead at all times, remain strictly outdoors on the patio and grounds, and keep clear of the growing vegetable gardens. There is also a resident farm dog that roams the property freely, so a secure lead and calm dog are essential rather than optional.

Max: leash discipline is the whole game here. A solid recall makes the difference between a relaxed long lunch and a chase across the paddock.

The vibe

The kitchen has picked up regional restaurant awards for its top-to-tail approach, raising meat and pulling vegetables from the garden the same day they hit the plate. The Farm Feast menus pair farm-raised lamb with estate wines and charcuterie, and the cellar door pours the range in a casual, rustic setting. Bookings are strongly recommended, and arriving half an hour before a feast booking gives you time for a tasting first. It opens 10am to 5pm, closed Tuesdays.

Getting there and parking

The property sits on Glenarty Road in Karridale, reached by car with gravel access to the parking area. On-site parking is free and plentiful.

While you're out there

If your dog needs a proper run rather than a lead-up lunch, Augusta Dog Beach is roughly 20 minutes further south and delivers exactly that. Back toward town, Cape Mentelle and Stella Bella Wines round out a southern cellar door run.
