Oakridge Wines

Oakridge is a modern, premium winery at 864 Maroondah Highway in Coldstream, with a well-regarded cellar door and restaurant set against the vines. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the outdoor areas, which turns one of the Yarra Valley's flagship tasting stops into a workable run with the dog on board.

The dog setup

Dogs join you on lead in the designated outdoor seating, the patio and decking over the vine rows, rather than inside the restaurant or tasting room. Water bowls are often on hand but a collapsible bowl in the car removes the doubt.

The dog-friendly seating is outdoors only and it fills, so call ahead if you are planning to eat, and aim for a weekday for the calmest version. Cellar door hours run 10am to 5pm daily.

Worth knowing

Oakridge is known for cool-climate chardonnay and pinot noir, a produce-led kitchen and Sustainable Winegrowing Australia certification, with valley views doing the rest of the selling. It is a polished destination rather than a dusty farm gate, so the outdoor terrace is the part to plan around with a dog.

Pepsi: book the terrace, not the dining room. From the decking the vines do the view work while she works through a bowl of water at the table.

Getting there and parking

The drive from Melbourne CBD takes about an hour up the Maroondah Highway, with on-site parking including EV charging points. Arrive before midday on weekends, when the car park and the terrace both tighten up.
