Burnum Burnum Sanctuary Loop

Burnum Burnum Sanctuary sits on the Woronora River at Woronora, with a riverside park and boat ramp at the bottom and bush tracks climbing above. Dogs are welcome, on a lead, which makes it a good Sutherland Shire option for a walk with some hills in it.

Lead rules

Sutherland Shire Council requires dogs on lead throughout the sanctuary and reserve. Dogs are not allowed in the children's playground area.

The walk

Level paved paths run around the main park and boat ramp. From there the upper sanctuary trails switch to dirt, soil and rock, with some climbing.

The bushland gives shade, and the views stretch over the Woronora River and Bonnet Bay.

At the reserve

There is a car park near the main entrance and boat ramp, plus water bubblers, toilets, shaded picnic shelters and barbecues.

Max: The upper tracks are rocky underfoot. Take them slowly with older dogs, and keep the lead short on the steeper bits.

When to go

The paved lower paths suit older dogs, while fitter dogs can take on the bush trails for a proper workout.
