West Ulverstone Foreshore Shared Pathway

The West Ulverstone Foreshore Shared Pathway is one stretch of the Coastal Pathway on Tasmania's north-west coast, with Bass Strait in view the whole way. It is a firm on-lead route.

Lead rules

Central Coast Council's dog management policy makes the shared pathway from Sulphur Creek to Leith an on-lead area, and that includes the Ulverstone and West Ulverstone foreshore.

Nearby beaches have their own on-lead and off-lead rules, so check the signs before your dog leaves the path.

The walk

The path is paved and flat, shared with cyclists, and follows the coast past rocky shores and coastal plants. Some trees give shade, but long sections are open to the sun and the sea breeze.

Getting started

There is parking near the main entry points, including by Otto's Grotto and at Legion Park on the Leven River mouth. Bins sit near access points and picnic areas.

Taps are few and far between, so carry water and a collapsible bowl.

Make a day of it

Finish with a coffee at Hey Buddy in West Ulverstone.

Who it suits

The level, sealed surface suits older dogs and prams alike. On hot days go early, since there is little cover along the open stretches.
