Walsh Bay Arts Precinct Walk

Walsh Bay's old finger wharves along Hickson Road now hold theatres and arts venues, and the flat harbourside promenade past them makes a relaxed on-lead city walk. The timber decking and the harbour right beside you are the reasons to come.

Lead rules

Dogs must stay on a leash here at all times under City of Sydney rules. For off-lead time, Munn Reserve on Merriman Street in Millers Point has a 24/7 off-leash grassed area with shaded seating.

The walk

The surface mixes paved concrete, historic timber decking and smooth footpath, all of it flat. Wide piers make it easy to move around other walkers with a dog.

The two-storey cargo wharves have been turned into contemporary theatres and creative venues, with Sydney Harbour behind them the whole way.

Water and shade

Bubblers and café water bowls turn up along Hickson Road and near the wharves, and bins are frequent. The wharf buildings and awnings throw shade, though the open boardwalks get full sun.

Paid parking is at Bond Store One, 26 Hickson Road, and at the Towns Place car park on the corner of Hickson Road.

Make a day of it

Carry on to the Writers Walk at The Rocks, or stop for coffee at Rubber Ducky Cafe in Millers Point.

Go in the morning, before the sun is on the open boardwalks. The flat surface suits older dogs and small ones alike.
