Lagoon Trail, Hindmarsh River Estuary

The Lagoon Trail is a flat loop in the Hindmarsh River estuary at Victor Harbor, near the McCracken boundary. It circles a lagoon left behind by the river's old course, and dogs are welcome on a lead.

Lead rules

The City of Victor Harbor requires dogs on a lead in sensitive areas such as estuary dunes and wetlands, and that covers this trail. The lead can be no longer than two metres.

Council reserves elsewhere in town allow off-lead exercise under effective control, so save the running for those.

The walk

You wander through paperbark woodland on a mix of timber boardwalk and natural earth track, with the lagoon beside you most of the way.

Other loops branch off the same trail network, including the Paperbark Trail, if you want more distance.

Max: The estuary wetlands are sensitive ground. A short lead keeps your dog on the track and off the birds.

Make a day of it

Head into town afterwards for coffee at Qahwa Coffee Roasters or Ara's Cafe.

Level ground makes this an easy pick for older dogs. Bring water for the dog.
