Turners Beach Foreshore Shared Pathway

The Turners Beach Foreshore Shared Pathway gives dogs two things in one outing: an easy sealed walk along the coast and a legal off-leash run on the sand at the western end. It forms part of the North West Coastal Pathway on Tasmania's north coast.

Leads and the off-lead area

Central Coast Council sets the rules, and on the shared pathway itself your dog stays on lead.

The beach splits in two. From east of Claytons Rivulet to west of Turners Beach Road, dogs can run off leash under effective control.

East of Turners Beach Road toward the Forth River, the beach is on lead only, using a handheld lead no longer than 2 metres.

The walk

The path is smooth, paved and off-road, so it suits prams, bikes and older dogs alike. It follows the foreshore past driftwood on the sand and bends toward the spot where the Forth River meets the sea.

Amenity blocks near the Esplanade have water bowls for dogs, and bins sit near the beach access points and barbecue areas. Coastal trees shade some stretches, but the open beach has none.

Parking is easy along the Esplanade and near the beach entries and boat ramps.

Go early or late in summer, when the exposed sand heats up. Dogs that love a swim will head straight for the western end.
