Trott Park Trail

Four leafy neighbourhood reserves in Trott Park are strung together by this City of Marion trail, and one of them holds a fenced off-leash dog park. That makes it a walk with a built-in run halfway.

The route

The trail starts in the east at Tyson Avenue Reserve, then meanders through Reserve Street Reserve and Scarvell Avenue Reserve before finishing at Klippel Avenue Reserve. Hard-surfaced paths link into the existing local footpaths.

Expect lawns, native plantings and bench seats along the way rather than bushland.

Lead rules

The rules change from reserve to reserve. At Reserve Street Reserve, dogs can run off lead inside the fenced, double-gated enclosures.

Klippel Avenue Reserve allows off-lead dogs except within 5 metres of playgrounds or wetlands. Council rules also require a lead within 5 metres of any playground, so on the connecting paths it is simplest to keep the lead on unless signs say otherwise.

Reserve Street Reserve is the place to stop for water, with drinking bubblers that have a low dog bowl, plus bins and bag dispensers at the main entries. Street parking sits right beside it.

Make a day of it

Nearby Strutt Court Reserve is a pocket park for a quieter sniff, and Glenthorne National Park, Ityamaiitpinna Yarta suits a bigger outing.

Mature trees give pockets of shade, but much of the grass is open, so summer walks work best early. The fenced enclosures suit dogs still working on their recall.
