Tooan Tooan Creek Walk

Where Tooan Tooan Creek meets the bay at Pialba, the Hervey Bay foreshore turns into one of the easiest dog outings in town. The beach from the creek to Scarness Jetty is off-leash around the clock.

Leads and the off-lead area

Fraser Coast Regional Council has made the stretch from Tooan Tooan Creek to Scarness Jetty a 24-hour off-leash area, with no timed windows to remember. On the concrete pathways and parks that connect to it, dogs go back on lead.

The walk

A sealed coastal path runs along the foreshore, with sandy tracks leading down to the beach. Mangroves line the creek, then the view opens onto shallow sandbanks and clear water.

The shallows and the creek mouth are gentle enough for a paddle. Mature trees along the grassy reserve give patches of shade.

Toilets, bins and parking sit at park nodes along the Pialba and Scarness foreshore. Water for dogs is patchy on the path, so carry a bottle and bowl.

Pepsi: The shallow sandbanks are the best bit for a splash. Keep an eye on how far out the tide takes you.

For another all-hours beach, the 24/7 Off-leash Dog Beach at Urangan is further along the bay. Spotted Goat Kitchen in Torquay makes a good coffee stop.

When to go

Mornings and late afternoons are best, when the sand is cool. Water-loving dogs will get the most out of it.
