The Waterfront Promenade

Shellharbour Marina's boardwalks make up The Waterfront Promenade in Shell Cove, a flat circuit of about 2.5 km past moored boats, breakwalls and harbourside dining. Dogs are welcome, but only on a lead.

Lead rules

Shellharbour City Council requires dogs to stay on a lead at all times on the public walkways, boardwalks and town centre precinct. Dogs are not allowed to swim in the harbour, and the kids' beach is off limits.

If your dog lives for a swim, save that for a beach signed for dogs.

The walk

The surface is smooth concrete and boardwalk decking, easy for prams, wheelchairs and older dogs. Precinct parking sits near the public boat ramp and the marina.

Dog waste bags are provided at intervals along the walkways. Shade depends on the time of day and the breakwall stretches are open, so bring water for the dog on warm afternoons.

Make a day of it

Several waterfront venues have outdoor seating where dogs can join you. Try Leaf Cafe & Co for coffee, or Georgia Rose for something longer.

When to go

Mornings are calmer, before the dining crowd builds. Social dogs might enjoy Woofstock, the annual pet festival held at The Waterfront.
