Ted Burge Sports Ground walking route

Ted Burge Sports Ground straddles the Merrylands and South Wentworthville border, running from Centenary Road through to Richmond Street. It is an on-lead neighbourhood loop around playing fields, not a place to let a dog run.

Leads and the sports fields

Cumberland City Council allows dogs on lead and under effective control. Keep them at least 10 metres from active sports fields and playground equipment, and off the pitches entirely while games are on.

The walk

Flat concrete and asphalt paths circle the grounds, edged with grass. You pass soccer, cricket and softball fields, practice nets and the community facilities.

Established shade trees and picnic shelters break up the sun. Bins sit around the picnic, barbecue and playground areas, and there is parking off the main entrances.

Max: On game days the pitches are off limits, so keep a short lead and give the players a wide berth.

When to go

Times without organised sport are easiest. The flat, predictable circuit suits older dogs and anyone after a short daily stroll.
