Hampden Road Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Hampden Road Reserve is a small, fully fenced off-leash park at 8 Hampden Road in South Wentworthville, open around the clock for dogs of all sizes. It is a neighbourhood workhorse rather than a destination: secure fencing, basic agility gear and enough room for a solid run or a training session.

The dog setup

The enclosure is fully fenced with a gated entry, flat grass inside, bench seating and a water tap for the dogs. Under the Cumberland City Council rules, handlers must be 16 or older, dogs stay under effective control even off-lead, and declared dangerous or restricted breeds are not permitted.

Waste pickup is mandatory, with fines up to $275, and the council's off-leash program stocks free bags on site. There are no public toilets at the reserve, so plan accordingly. It is worth walking the fence line before unclipping, especially with a dog that tests fences.

Worth knowing

Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the quiet slots, while weekends and the 4pm to 6pm after-work window draw more dogs. The basic agility equipment gives nervous or high-energy dogs something to do beyond plain fetch, which helps in a smaller space.

Because the enclosure is compact, sessions tend to be short and social rather than sprawling, which suits owners who want a reliable ten-minute run close to home.
