Taylors Creek Trail

Taylors Creek Trail follows a valley of centuries-old river red gums from Rowlandson Place in Taylors Lakes down to Burrowye Crescent in Keilor. It is a Brimbank City Council trail, and dogs stay on a lead along it unless you step into a signed off-lead park beside the path.

The walk

Most of it is sealed and smooth, with a few gravel links, so it stays clean after rain.

Expect basalt remnants of old lava flows, plenty of birdlife and a calmer feel than the surrounding streets. The big gums shade parts of the valley, though some stretches are open.

Before you set out

Street parking is easiest near Burrowye Crescent and other access roads, and bins sit at the main entry points. Taps are sparse on the quieter sections, so carry water for the dog.

Max: Snakes are about in the warmer months. Stay on the path and keep the lead short near long grass.

Finish with a run at Green Gully Reserve Fenced Dog Park, or head to Brimbank Park for more river walking.

When to go

Cool mornings suit it best in summer. The flat, paved surface makes it an easy choice for older dogs and for walkers pushing a pram.
