Targa Community Hall Grounds

In the small rural locality of Targa, in the City of Launceston, the community hall grounds give a dog an easy, short stretch on lead. Think leg-stretch on a country drive, not a trek.

Leads and the law

Tasmania's dog control guide asks for a lead of 2 metres or less in public places that are not signed for off-lead exercise. Pack a standard lead rather than a long line.

The lap

It is a casual loop of the hall perimeter on grass and gravel, with no measured length. The outlook is quiet farmland and open countryside.

There are no dog water stations and bins are sparse, so bring water and carry your bags out. Park informally near the hall.

For a longer outing, the Lilydale to Scottsdale Rail Trail runs through the area along the old railway corridor, and dogs stay on lead there too.

Who it suits

Travelling dogs that need a quiet break, and older dogs that want a gentle, flat wander well away from traffic.
