Stockade Park

Stockade Botanical Park turns an old Northfield quarry into landscaped gardens, with a rock waterfall, a lake and stone walls left from its working past. It is on-lead throughout, which makes it a calm place for a slow, scenic walk.

Leads at all times

The City of Port Adelaide Enfield lists Stockade Park as a dog on-leash area at all times. There is no off-lead section, so plan a run somewhere else.

The walk

Sealed paths wind through the gardens past the waterfall, the lake, a sensory garden and open lawns. The grounds are well kept and quieter than the big linear parks closer to the city.

High tree canopy and sheltered picnic areas give plenty of shade. Toilets, bins, barbecues and seating are on site, and there is a free car park.

Bring water and a bowl for the dog in the warmer months.

Make a day of it

For off-lead play, LJ Lewis Reserve Fenced Dog Park is nearby in Northfield. For a longer walk, try the Walkley Heights Walking Trail.

When to go

The shade makes it workable in summer, though the lake and waterfall are at their best on a mild morning. Flat sealed paths suit older dogs and anyone pushing a pram.
