Stanthorpe Heritage Trail

Stanthorpe began as a tin-mining settlement, and its heritage trail is a self-guided town walk past the buildings and sites from those late 19th-century years. Dogs can come along on lead.

Lead rules

Southern Downs Regional Council requires dogs to be on a leash and under effective control in public spaces, unless you are inside a designated off-leash area. The heritage trail runs through the town, so the lead stays on throughout.

The walk

This is a stroll on urban footpaths and paved walkways rather than a bush track, which makes it easy on older dogs and short legs. You set your own pace and stop wherever a building catches your eye.

The outdoor grounds of the Stanthorpe Heritage Museum on High Street welcome leashed pets, so you can wander among its historic buildings with the dog beside you.

For something greener, the creek paths at Quart Pot Creek Parklands wind through granite country, bushland and landscaped parkland right through town.

When to go

Bring water for the dog. The trail suits a slow wander with a calm, lead-trained dog that is comfortable on town streets, and it combines easily with the creek walk for a longer outing.
