Stanmore Reserve

Stanmore Reserve wraps around Stanmore Library on Douglas Street, a small patch of lawn and garden that is more quiet pause than big walk. Dogs are welcome on a lead.

Lead rules

Inner West Council has not made this an off-lead area, so the lead stays on. For off-lead time, nearby Weekley Park has a signed exercise area at set hours.

The walk

Paved paths cross green lawns and landscaped beds, past leafy mature trees and the library's historic brick front. The loop is short, but you can stretch it through the Victorian streets of the surrounding heritage pocket.

Mature trees around the edge give moderate shade. Bins are in the surrounding streets, and there is no reliable dog bubbler on the library grounds, so bring water for the dog.

Getting there

Street parking, some unrestricted and some time-limited, runs along Douglas Street and the nearby blocks.

Make a day of it

Wander on to Petersham for a drink at Public House Petersham or a coffee at Brothers Ben Cafe.

It suits anxious or older dogs that do better with a calm, low-key walk than a busy dog park.
