Duck River Crossing is a flat, shared path along the Duck River in South Granville, a quiet riparian stretch of native vegetation and birdlife that makes for an easy on-leash walk away from traffic.
The walk. The path is mostly paved or gravelled and largely flat, running several kilometres along the riverbank and connecting through to Auburn. It's an easy walk or light jog rather than a hike, and shared with cyclists on the narrower sections, so keep dogs close when bikes pass.
The rules. Treat this as an on-leash path. Cumberland Council enforces leash rules on shared paths and requires owners to pick up after their dogs, with bins provided at intervals, though we'd confirm exact signage and any fines on the day rather than relying on secondhand figures.
Water and amenities. Some sections have bubblers with a bowl at the base, and there are occasional benches along the bank, but don't count on toilets or shade cover for the whole route, bring your own water as a backup.

Getting there. Access is via local streets in South Granville and Auburn, with street parking near the entry points. Granville Station is a short walk from the South Granville end if you're coming by train.
Nearby with the dogs. Granville and Auburn both have cafes with outdoor seating within a few minutes' drive for a coffee after the walk, and pet-friendly accommodation is available further out around Parramatta if you need to stay overnight.
Go on a weekday morning for the quietest stretch. After heavy rain the unpaved sections turn muddy and low-lying parts can flood, so check conditions if there's been a storm.
